ACE Prevention

Developmental trauma impacts all ages and especially those with high ACE scores. Currently I am developing a protocol for clinicians to walk with their clients through developmental trauma and the gaps it creates in neurodevelopment.

Teen/Adolescent

When a young person experiences trauma, EMDR  can be an option, especially for those who do not like to talk at length. DBT is also a great option for teens who struggle with emotion regulation. Mapping gaps in brain development is also important and this is done through an assessment tool called NMT.

Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR)

The body responds to traumatic events by protecting itself, going into flight, fright, or freeze.  Once it is safe, it does not always go back to a state of safety. The body sometimes stays on alert.  While cognitively one may know they are safe, the body often does not feel the same sense of safety.

The body's autonomic nervous system can get stuck believing it is in a state of danger. This can cause it to get stuck in fight, flight, or freeze, the body feeling AS IF it is reliving events.  In an effort of protection, the body may startle easily, have triggers from sounds, touch, or smells, and have flashbacks.  EMDR can help move those events to the past, so you can LIVE IN THE TODAY.

NP Assessments

An assessment that targets gaps in brain development can help treatment target gaps in neurodevelopment. NMT as well as Neuromovement are leading the field in this area.  14 Peaks offers Neurodevelopmental assessments and targeted treatment plans based on these models.

Neuroaffective Touch

The body and mind are connected and the body has a story. This powerful trauma therapy was developed for relational and developmental trauma. It helps heal trauma at the deepest levels.

Somatic Experiencing

Somatic Experiencing is a body-based therapy that uses the felt sense (how you feel in this body) to help the autonomic nervous system rest in a state of safety.  Throughout the therapy sensations, images, beliefs, urges, and emotions will be explored in this body-based therapy.

Neuroscience shows that images, sensations, a belief system, an urge, and emotions are all areas that must be integrated in trauma resolution. These areas are explored gently in Somatic Experiencing.  It is a therapy which seeks to find where the nervous system is stuck and interrupt the cycle.

Walk/Talk

Walk/talk sessions are very regulating for the body. The rhythm of walking  can be very therapeutic. You could ask your current therapist to walk during your session. Most therapists will gladly do a session while walking.

Workshops

Workshops and retreats are great ways to accelerate healing by knowledge. Just learning polyvagal theory in our workshops helps one begin to become self-aware and understand why our body responds as it does. Healing through knowledge is a focus of our workshops.
