After spending 14 years in active addiction, and going through residential treatment for my own struggles, I had the opportunity to work in a treatment center helping others who struggled like me. During this time, I felt God calling me to seminary and I completed my Masters in Counseling from B.H. Carroll Theological Institute. I have always had a passion for helping those who struggle with substance abuse issues.
I spent 10 years working in the residential treatment industry, and the last 5 years working with adolescents in residential treatment for substance use and co-occurring psychiatric disorders. Although I love working with substance use, my time working with adolescents opened my eyes to the impact that trauma, specifically early childhood trauma, has on our ability to function as we were designed. I am trained in Somatic Experiencing, EMDR and DBT therapies, though I use an eclectic approach based on client specific needs.
It is my belief that we all have the capacity to experience freedom from whatever keeps us in bondage, be it anxiety, depression, guilt, grief, shame, addiction, or the lasting impact of traumatic life experiences. Whether it is a roadblock or simply a speed bump, my goal is to be able to come along side clients, sit in the muck with them, and help them explore ways to overcome whatever they are struggling.
In my professional capacity, I hold a leadership position at 14 Peaks and supervise graduate students, ensuring that future therapists are well-prepared for their careers.
